History and Purpose

History and Purpose

On April 22, 1992, at the Bloomsburg Town Hall, founder Dorothy Wilson met with several area artists who were interested in creating an art league. This group met for several months as a steering committee for this purpose. A Board of Directors and Officers was formed, and the constitution and by-laws were established. On November 30, 1992, the first general meeting of the North Mountain Art League was held in Bloomsburg.

The purpose of this non-profit organization is to sponsor juried and non-juried exhibitions, provide information and communication, to serve as a means for artists to meet in both a social and professional environment, and to promote an awareness of the visual fine arts and the artists.

We are honored to have Neil Welliver, nationally and internationally known Maine artist, who was originally from Millville in Columbia County, as our Honorary Director.
